Whilst at Red Cross she specialised in Cardio Thoracic ICU (Babies with Heart defects) as well as Oncology (Kids with Cancer) before taking her skills abroad to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London (UK), where she had the opportunity to practice and specialise in the highly trained discipline referred to as ECMO (Advanced life support for critically ill Babies & Children), and the follow on Transitional Care Program (allowing children to go home whilst still requiring specialised care).
As such, she is highly qualified and is a PNP (SA) Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (SA) and RSCN (UK) Registered Sick Children’s Nurse (UK)
On returning to Cape Town, Sister Alex locum in her field at Christian Barnard Memorial Hospital, Cape Town Medi Clinic, Vincent Palotti & Kingsbury Hospital before opening KIDS CLINIC in 2000, as a Comprehensive Private Well Baby and Paediatric Clinic in Camps Bay, managing both babies & children, healthy & sick.
Since opening in 2000, Kids Clinic has offered primary health care services from pre-birth to 12 years of age including immunisations, parent counselling, breastfeeding, health screening etc., working closely with many of the top Paediatricians in Cape Town, and is certainly the most qualified paediatric nurse in private practice.
Sister Alex as a nurse, mother of two boys and wife, realises the importance of balancing one’s life and is passionate about producing healthy and emotionally happy families by educating and empowering parents so that they can enjoy their family process, no matter how diverse.
